Description

Description

Clinker is a generic name given to residual waste from industrial processes, produced from the incineration of household waste, the combustion of fossil fuels, smelting metals, welding, and use of a blacksmith's forge.

In case of waste incineration, it represents 20 to 25% of the initial weight and 10% of the incinerated volume and it is also called HRIC (Household Refuse Incineration Clinker).

Clinker consists of of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, minerals such as silica, glass, or calcium and organic compounds. Clinker often has a glassy look to it, usually because of the formation of molten silica compounds during processing.

Clinkers can occur naturally, for example in underground deposits of coal that has been altered by heat from nearby molten magma; volcanic clinkers are jagged pieces of lava that look similar to industrial clinker.
