Dolomitic Quicklime

Dual-oxide chemistry of dolomitic quicklime imparts distinct advantages over high-calcium quicklime

 Dolomitic quicklime | Source: Carmeuse

Dolomitic quicklime is produced by the calcination of dolomite (CaMg(CO₃)₂) at temperatures above ~1,100°F (593°C), yielding a mixed calcium-magnesium oxide product (CaO·MgO) in which both oxides are present in near-equal proportions. It is classified as a mixture rather than a single compound, and is commercially registered under the calcium magnesium oxide CAS number. Its dual-oxide chemistry imparts distinct advantages over high-calcium quicklime in applications where both CaO and MgO contribute to the process — most notably in steelmaking slag control and refractory applications.
