The LAO plant was built in 1992 and expanded in 1999. LAOs are used as intermediates in the manufacturing of many products such as detergents, polyalphaolefin synthetic lubricants, polyethylene, petroleum products, etc. The feedstocks of this unit are mainly ethylene, supplied by the Antwerp pipeline and TEA (Tri-Alkyl-Aluminium), supplied by trucks. In 1991, the PAO unit started its 35,000 tons production, followed one year later by the LAO unit producing 200,000 tons. The site has been continuously expanded. In 2000, the LAO production capacity was increased to 300,000 tons. (Source)

Today (Editor's note: 25 June 2009) INEOS Oligomers announced the start-up of its new “super flexible” technology innovation for its Linear Alpha Olefin (LAO) unit in Feluy, Belgium. (Source)
