The Vaudreuil refinery, operated by Rio Tinto in Saguenay, Quebec, is a central hub for the global aluminum industry, primarily focused on the production of approximately 1.5 million tonnes of alumina annually through the Bayer process. The plant also contains a fluoride unit, where imported hydrofluoric acid is used to produce the aluminum fluoride necessary for regional smelting operations.
