The Vaudreuil refinery, operated by Rio Tinto in Saguenay, Quebec, is a central hub for the global aluminum industry, primarily focused on the production of approximately 1.5 million tonnes of alumina annually through the Bayer process, which uses Bauxite ore as its starting point. The plant also contains a fluoride unit, where imported hydrofluoric acid is used to produce the aluminum fluoride necessary for regional smelting operations.
