Calcinated pitch coke | Source: Dev Energy

Calcined pitch coke is the thermally treated form of pitch coke, produced by calcining green pitch coke at temperatures of 1,200–1,400°C in a rotary kiln or equivalent calcination furnace in the absence of air. Calcination drives off residual volatile matter, increases real density, and develops the electrical and structural properties required for industrial carbon and graphite applications. It is the commercially dominant form of pitch coke and the product referenced in virtually all commercial specifications and safety data sheets.
