Description

The National Petrochemical Company (NPC / NIPC) is Iran’s state-owned petrochemical holding, responsible for planning, developing, and supervising the country’s entire petrochemical value chain. It operates under the Ministry of Petroleum and coordinates a network of production complexes and subsidiaries that convert Iran’s extensive oil and gas reserves into higher‑value chemical and polymer products.

Beyond managing large export‑oriented complexes in hubs such as Assaluyeh and Mahshahr, NPC plays a central role in technology localization, project development, and industrial policy, working with Iranian and international partners to design, finance, and execute new plants. The company is a key driver of non‑crude export revenues for Iran, leveraging advantages such as access to diverse feedstocks (gas- and liquids‑based), proximity to deep‑water ports on the Persian Gulf, and a sizable domestic base of engineers and skilled operators.

NPC’s mandate explicitly links sector growth with broader national objectives: expanding downstream and conversion industries, increasing value added per barrel of hydrocarbons, promoting regional development, and creating stable employment in industrial zones across the country.
