Dushanzi Petrochemical Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PetroChina (China National Petroleum Corporation) operating multiple integrated refining and petrochemical facilities in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, western China. The company represents one of the birthplaces of China's petroleum industry, with its first oil well drilled in 1909 and formal refinery establishment in 1936. Dushanzi serves as a strategic hub for oil and gas processing, storage, and transmission, playing a critical role in China's energy security, particularly for crude oil imported from Kazakhstan.

Karamay Site

The primary integrated refining and petrochemical complex is located in Dushanzi District, Karamay City. This site, which commenced refining operations in 1942, has a crude oil processing capacity of 10 million tons per year (approximately 202,400 barrels per day) and ethylene production capacity of 1.22 million tons per year. The Karamay site employs approximately 13,000 people and maintains total assets of 42.2 billion yuan. 

Korla (Tarim) Site

Dushanzi operates a second major facility—the Tarim ethylene complex—located in Korla, Xinjiang (Shangku Petroleum and Petrochemical Industrial Park). This ethane-based petrochemical complex commenced commercial operations in 2021 with Phase I capacity of 600,000 tons per year of ethylene and 600,000 tons per year combined polyethylene production. The Tarim Phase II expansion project, currently under construction as of mid-2024, will add 1.2 million tons per year of ethylene capacity along with multiple polyolefin units. The feedstock consists of ethane separated from natural gas produced at the Tarim oilfield, establishing a fully integrated gas-to-chemicals value chain.
