IRPC Public Company Limited or IRPC (Company) is an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex located in Rayong Province, Thailand, and operates as a subsidiary of PTT Public Company Limited, Thailand's state-owned oil and gas company. PTT holds approximately 48.1% ownership in IRPC.
IRPC, formerly Thai Petrochemical Industry Public Company Limited or “TPI”, registered in 1978 by Leophairatana family. TPI had been transformed to a public company limited on October 10, 1994 and listed on the SET on March 17, 1995.
Refinery Operations
IRPC operates Thailand's third-largest refinery with a crude oil processing capacity of 215,000 barrels per day (bpd). The refinery produces a range of petroleum products including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and Lube Base Oil Group I. The facility underwent upgrades completed in 2016 under the "hygiene and value-added products (UHV)" project to improve efficiency and product yields.
Petrochemical Complex
The petrochemical operations have a total capacity of 3,137 kilotonnes per annum (KTA), producing olefins, aromatics, styrenics, polyolefins, and polystyrenics. IRPC is a naphtha-based petrochemical producer and operates as Southeast Asia's leading polypropylene (PP) producer with 775 KTA capacity. The complex includes approximately 728,000 tonnes annual capacity for olefins products and 367,000 tonnes for aromatics.
Integration Strategy
IRPC operates as a fully integrated complex where refinery operations feed the petrochemical units, with the refinery optimally running at approximately 70% capacity to enable petrochemical plants to operate at 100% utilization. This integration strategy focuses on value-added petrochemical products that offer higher margins compared to conventional refining products.
