Description

Corporate Overview

Safripol (Pty) Ltd is South Africa's leading polymer producer and the second-largest polymer manufacturer in sub-Saharan Africa.

Specializing in high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Safripol holds the unique position as South Africa's only HDPE and PET producer.

The company operates as a major subsidiary of KAP Limited (JSE: KAP), maintaining production facilities in Sasolburg (Free State) and Durban (KwaZulu-Natal) with combined capacity of approximately 540,000 tons per annum.

The company employs approximately 450-500 personnel and generates annual revenues of approximately R7.5 billion.

Ownership

KAP Limited acquired Safripol Holdings Proprietary Limited on January 1, 2017, for R4.1 billion (approximately USD 310 million).

Safripol traces its heritage to April 1, 1972, when it was established as a joint venture between Sentrachem (South Africa) and Hoechst (Germany).

The company was owned by Dow Chemical from 1999 to 2007, then operated under private equity ownership (Rockwood Private Equity, Thebe Investment Corporation, and management) until the KAP acquisition.

Safripol operates as KAP's chemical division alongside Hosaf and Woodchem businesses, with headquarters in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
