Gruppo API, now operating primarily under the Italiana Petroli (IP) brand, is the leading private Italian company in the fuel and mobility services sector. Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Rome, the group is wholly owned by the Brachetti Peretti family and managed by Italiana Petroli S.p.A.

With a network of nearly 4,500–5,000 IP-branded fuel stations strategically distributed throughout Italy, Gruppo API is a key partner for national mobility, serving over 12 million unique customers and holding a significant market share in fuel distribution. The group is vertically integrated across the downstream oil sector, handling the procurement of crude oil, refining, logistics, distribution, and retail sales of petroleum products. Its refining operations include the Ancona refinery and, more recently, full control of the SARPOM refinery in Trecate, bringing total refining capacity to approximately 5.5 million tonnes per year.

In addition to traditional fuel supply, Gruppo API has expanded into alternative fuels and energy transition initiatives, such as incorporating renewable raw materials for biofuel production and launching partnerships for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The company is also investing in innovation, sustainability, and customer-centric services, positioning itself as a modern mobility retailer beyond just fuel provision.
