China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (中国神华能源股份有限公司), incorporated on November 8, 2004, is a globally-leading coal-based integrated energy company and the world's largest coal producer, operating as a subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation.
Corporate Structure
China Shenhua Energy is a publicly-listed subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy), formerly known as Shenhua Group. The company was dual-listed through IPOs on June 15, 2005 (Hong Kong Stock Exchange) and October 9, 2007 (Shanghai Stock Exchange). As of the end of 2024, CSEC reported total assets of 658.1 billion Yuan, market capitalization of 822.1 billion Yuan, and approximately 83,000 employees.
CHN Energy has been the controlling shareholder since China Shenhua Energy's establishment in 2004 - over 21 years. Pending Asset Acquisition (2026)
In December 2025, China Shenhua Energy Company Limited announced a major USD19 billion (approximately CNY 138.5 billion) asset acquisition from its parent company, China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy), marking China's largest energy sector restructuring to date. The acquisition involves 12 core subsidiaries across multiple business segments that will transfer from CHN Energy to China Shenhua Energy:
Coal Mining Assets:
- Shendong Coal Group - one of the world's largest coal mining operations
- Zhungeer Energy Company
- Additional coal mining entities increasing total coal production capacity
Coal Chemical Assets:
- Yulin Coal Chemical Company - operates coal-to-liquid and coal-to-chemical facilities in Shaanxi Province

The acquisition will significantly expand China Shenhua Energy's operational scale:
