Description

Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) is a global manufacturer of diversified organic chemical products, headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. Founded in 1970 by Jon M. Huntsman Sr. and built primarily through acquisitions, the company today employs approximately 6,300 people and operates across more than 55 manufacturing, R&D, and operations facilities in ~25 countries.

Business Segments

Huntsman operates across three core divisions:

  • Polyurethanes — The largest segment (~$3.7B revenue), producing methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), polyols, and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU); serves building insulation, construction, automotive (including EVs), and footwear markets

  • Performance Products — Manufactures ethyleneamines, polyetheramines, maleic anhydride, and specialty amines; used in polyurethane foam, fuel/lubricant additives, paints, composites, gas treatment, and semiconductor cleaning

  • Advanced Materials — Produces epoxy resins, curing agents, acrylic and polyurethane polymer formulations, and carbon nanomaterials; serves aerospace, electronics, and printed circuit board markets

Financials & Leadership

Huntsman reported approximately $5.7–6.0 billion in revenue for 2025. The company is led by CEO Peter Huntsman (son of the founder), with Cynthia L. Egan serving as board chair. The company posted a net loss of $189M in its most recent reported year.

The Olin–Huntsman Merger

This is highly relevant context: on June 15, 2026, Olin and Huntsman announced a merger of equals in an all-stock deal valued at approximately $2.43 billion. The combined entity will be named OlinHuntsman Corp., headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, with combined annual revenues of ~$12.5 billion, making it one of North America's largest chemical producers. The strategic logic is compelling — Olin is the world's largest chlorine producer via its chlor-alkali business, while Huntsman is a major chlorine consumer (MDI production requires chlorine). Post-merger ownership will be 54.5% Olin / 45.5% Huntsman shareholders. Olin CEO Ken Lane will lead the combined company, while Peter Huntsman will serve as non-executive chairman. The deal is expected to close in H1 2027, pending shareholder and regulatory approvals.
