Description

Mubadala Petroleum and Petrochemicals Holding is the dedicated platform-level holding company for Mubadala Investment Company's petroleum and petrochemicals investments, sitting directly beneath Mubadala Investment Company in the group's corporate hierarchy. It was established as one of the four core business platforms following the October 2017 merger of Mubadala Development Company and the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), consolidating the group's energy and chemicals assets under a unified governance structure.

The platform holds a diversified portfolio spanning the full hydrocarbon value chain — from upstream exploration and production through to downstream chemicals and materials — operating across the United Arab Emirates and internationally. Its principal subsidiaries and investment holdings include:

  • Mubadala Energy (formerly Mubadala Petroleum, rebranded September 2022) — the upstream E&P operating company active in 11 countries, producing over 450,000 boed, with a gas-weighted portfolio spanning Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and North America, including a 24.1% stake in Caturus HoldCo LLC (Commonwealth LNG, USA) • unverified at legal level until confirmed through a primary source

  • Borealis — a leading European polyolefins and fertilizers company, jointly held with OMV

  • Nova Chemicals — a Canadian polyethylene and polystyrene producer

  • Liwa Energy — a holding vehicle for upstream concession interests within the UAE

As a holding company, Mubadala Petroleum and Petrochemicals Holding does not conduct independent commercial or operating activities. Its role is to govern, consolidate, and optimize the financial and strategic performance of its subsidiary portfolio on behalf of Mubadala Investment Company — a sovereign investor that manages a diverse portfolio of assets and investments in the United Arab Emirates and abroad, to generate sustainable financial returns for its shareholder, the Government of Abu Dhabi.
