VERBIO's first biodiesel plant was built in October 2001 at Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park in the region of Saxony-Anhalt. With an initial production capacity of 150,000 tonnes, when it was built it was already the largest biodiesel plant in Europe. And over the following years, its production capacity and efficiency have been increased. The process for the transesterification of vegetable oil was developed by Dr. Georg Pollert, a co-founder of VERBIO, especially for the company. The process is distinguished by its high energy efficiency with minimal use of consumables. At the same plant there are produced high-quality pharma glycerine and sterols which are used as raw materials by pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries.
