Description

World Oil Company (officially World Oil Corp.) is one of California’s largest and longest-standing privately held energy and environmental services companies. Founded in 1938, the company has evolved from a pioneer of self-service gasoline stations into a highly integrated regional leader in petroleum refining, used oil recycling, and environmental services.

Pioneering History: Founded in 1938, World Oil gained fame in the mid-20th century by introducing the first self-serve gas stations in California under the “World” brand. Over the decades, the company divested its retail retail gas stations to focus on industrial recycling, refining, and logistics.

Business Divisions:

  • World Oil Refining: Manages the South Gate refining asset.
  • World Oil Recycling: Collects, processes, and re-refines millions of gallons of used motor oil, automotive fluids, and contaminated wastewater annually from thousands of locations across California.
  • World Oil Environmental Services: Provides hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, emergency spill response, and vacuum truck services.
  • World Oil Terminals & Logistics: Operates marine and inland storage terminals (including assets in the Port of Los Angeles) to facilitate the distribution of asphalt, crude oil, and light distillates.
