ERC was founded in 2007, under Law 8/1997, with the ultimate purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the Egyptian market of higher end-petroleum products. ERC is considered a major upgrade to the largest existing Egyptian refinery, Cairo Oil Refinery Company (CORC), located in Mostorod. The importance of the project stems from its remarkable contribution in easing the reliance of Egypt on imports for higher end-petroleum products and producing cleaner burning fuels, with most of Egypt’s refineries producing large amounts of fuel oil.
