In 2016, WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS division acquired a large-scale fermentation plant for producing fermentation-based cystine in León, Spain. WACKER is the world’s first company to bioengineer cystine in a patented, fermentation-based process that eliminates any risk of contamination by animal or human pathogens and is therefore of particular interest to the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food sectors.
