Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (FERTIL) is a UAE-based integrated nitrogen fertilizer producer and the flagship production asset of Fertiglobe in the UAE. Its production facility is located in the Ruwais Industrial Zone, approximately 235 km west of Abu Dhabi city, which operates two fully integrated ammonia/urea production trains (Fertil-1 and Fertil-2).

Ownership history

• 1980–2018: Joint venture between ADNOC (66.67%) and Total S.A. (33.33%)
• 2018: ADNOC acquired Total's 33.33% stake, making FERTIL 100% ADNOC-owned
• 2019: ADNOC contributed FERTIL into Fertiglobe plc upon its establishment, making Fertiglobe the 100% owner

Operations

FERTIL operates two production trains:

• Fertil-1 — original train, operational since 1983; produces ammonia and granular urea from lean gas supplied by onshore fields (BAB, ASAB, Thammama-C)
• Fertil-2 — expansion train completed in early 2013; capacity of 2,000 MTPD ammonia and 3,500 MTPD urea

Approximately 94% of production is exported to the Indian subcontinent, Far East, Africa, the Americas, and Australia, with ~6% sold domestically.
