The term Gas Condensate (or Condensate) is often applied to any liquid composed of low-boiling Hydrocarbons produced from a Gas well. Condensate differs substantially from conventional crude oil insofar as (1) the color of crude oil typically varies from dark green to black—typically, condensate is almost colorless; (2) crude oil typically contains some naphtha which is often incorrectly referred to as gasoline—condensate is almost equivalent in boiling range to the low-boiling naphtha fraction of crude oil; (3) crude oil usually contains dark-colored, high molecular weight nonvolatile components—condensate does not contain any dark-colored, high molecular weight nonvolatile components; and (4) the API gravity of crude oil, which is a measure of the weight per unit volume or density, is commonly less than 45 degrees—condensate typically has an API gravity on the order of 50 degrees and higher.
