Potassium hydroxide solution is a colorless inorganic liquid that acts as a strong base (alkali). It is a highly effective conductor and has many different applications. Historically produced by adding potassium carbonate to a strong solution of calcium hydroxide (slaked lime), it is currently produced through electrolysis of potassium chloride solutions[1].
Typical KOH concentration of caustic potash produced via the chlor-alkali process is in the range from 30% to 50%. At 20°C, the solubility of KOH is approximately 110 g per 100 mL of water, corresponding to a concentration of 52.7% w/w of KOH in water.
