The ONUBENSE ELECTROCHEMISTRY centre in Palos de la Frontera, located in the chemical estate of the Huelva estuary, produces chlorine, hydrogen and caustic soda, and derivatives such as sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride and hydrochloric acid, with applications in the sectors of water purification and management, textiles, food, detergents, agriculture and paper.

Since 1980, this production centre has had a 1,200 ha salt flat, located in the marshes on the right bank of the Odiel River, which provides the raw material (common salt) to the factory's electrolysis plant.
