PEMEX commemorates 42 years of operations of the Cangrejera Petrochemical Complex

The Cangrejera Petrochemical Complex is an industrial facility of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) inaugurated on April 29, 1981, which has been operating for 42 years with the mission of achieving self-sufficiency in petrochemical products.

Its main activity is the production of ethane-derived products, such as low-density polyethylene and ethylene oxide, as well as the production of aromatics such as benzene, toluene and xylene. These products are used as raw material for the production of plastics, fibers, synthetic rubbers, refrigerants, additives, solvents, resins, paints, varnishes and adhesives, among others.

In line with the strategy stipulated in the PEMEX Business Plan to increase gasoline production in the country and meet national demand, using the versatility of the facilities to produce petroleum products, work is currently underway to rehabilitate its facilities to incorporate a refining train, with the purpose of linking it to the rehabilitation project of the National Refining System.
