Site

The site began operations in 1950 as the DuPont May Plant, initially focused on acrylic fiber production. It later expanded to polyester and nylon fibers, serving both consumer and industrial markets. The site was acquired by INVISTA in 2003 when Koch Industries purchased DuPont’s textile and interiors division. The facility has transitioned from producing acrylic and carpet fibers to high-tech nylon 6,6 polymers and specialty fibers, reflecting changing market demands.

Recently, the site has been undergoing a $60–64 million transformation (2022–2024) to shift from fiber to polymer production, supporting high-tech markets such as automotive connectors, sensors, and heat- and chemical-resistant parts. Production continues for workwear and military applications.
