Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam

Shell Nederland Raffinaderij B.V. operates the refinery section of the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam. This refinery is the largest in Europe and among the largest worldwide, with a processing capacity of about 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Established in 1902, the refinery features a high degree of complexity (Nelson Complexity Index of 6.57), enabling it to produce a wide range of fuels and base chemicals including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, LPG, and fuel oil.

The site is highly integrated, housing both oil refining and chemical manufacturing units. It includes advanced processing facilities such as cracking units and aromatics plants. The refinery is actively transitioning toward sustainability, incorporating green hydrogen for processing from 2025 to reduce CO₂ emissions. Products from the refinery are distributed via pipelines, road, rail, and sea, supporting both local and international markets.
