The SARPOM refinery in Trecate (Novara), now fully owned by Italiana Petroli (IP), has a nominal capacity of about 8 million tonnes per year, or roughly 160,000 to 200,000 barrels per day depending on the source.

It is supplied with crude oil via the Quiliano (Savona) coastal depot, which can accommodate tankers up to 316,000 DWT and has a storage capacity of 360,000 cubic meters. Crude is transported from the depot to the refinery through a 146 km, 20-inch pipeline.

The refinery is equipped with major units such as atmospheric and vacuum distillation, fluidised catalytic cracking, isomerisation, and desulphurisation. SARPOM produces a wide range of products, including kerosene, jet fuel, gasoline, diesel, and asphalt.

In 2025, the site is also commissioning a 4MW PEM electrolyser powered by a new 7MW solar installation, aiming to produce green hydrogen and further decarbonize operations.
