Guangxi Petrochemical is the first large-scale refining base built by CNPC in southern China, mainly including more than 20 sets of production facilities including a 10 Mt/a atmospheric-vacuum distillation unit, a 3.5 Mt/a heavy catalytic cracking unit, a 2.2 Mt/a continuous reforming unit, a 2.2 Mt/a wax oil hydrogenation cracking unit, and auxiliary projects such as utilities, tank farms, dock and railway. In November 2007, Guangxi Petrochemical's 10Mt/a refining project was launched in Qinzhou. On September 6, 2010, its 10Mt/a refining project became operational. JEC, IPMT, ICMT and SPOM models were adopted in project design, engineering construction, operation commencement and production process respectively, which dramatically improved engineering quality and management efficiency.

The PetroChina Guangxi Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Transformation and Upgrading Project is an important , with a total investment of RMB 30,459,140,000, and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2025. After the project is completed and put into operation, it will play an important role in filling the gap in the regional high-end chemical new materials industry, meeting the market demand of the areas along the Western Land-Sea Corridor, and helping Guangxi to build a trillion-level green chemical new materials industry cluster facing ASEAN.

On July 29, 2023, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene unit of the PetroChina Guangxi Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Transformation and Upgrading Project was held at Qinzhou Port. As the core unit of the transformation and upgrading project, the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene unit adopts large-scale ethylene complete process technology with independent intellectual property rights of PetroChina. Its main products include polymerization-grade ethylene, polymerization-grade propylene, hydrogenated gasoline, and styrene. At the same time, it also produces by-products such as hydrogen, mixed C4, cracked C5, C9, and cracked fuel oil. The "reduced oil and increased production" effect is remarkable, and an industrial layout and product structure with Guangxi petrochemical characteristics and competitive advantages has been formed.
