Aug 11, 2025 - CPChem | Chevron Phillips Chemical completes low viscosity PAO expansion in Belgium 

The Beringen PAO plant was originally owned by Neste Oil before CPChem acquired it in 2011. For over 30 years prior to the acquisition, the facility had been manufacturing PAOs, establishing a strong legacy of operational excellence in specialty chemical production.

Chevron Phillips Chemical's Beringen facility is located in the Limburg province in eastern Belgium. The facility began operations on December 1, 2011, marking CPChem's first major plant acquisition and establishing the company's manufacturing presence in Europe.

The Beringen facility specializes in the production of polyalphaolefins (PAOs), marketed under the Synfluid® brand. These specialty chemicals are essential components in:

• Automotive and industrial lubricants
• Electric vehicle drivetrains
• Wind turbine gear systems
• Immersion cooling for high-performance computing applications
• Synthetic greases and fluids

In August 2025, CPChem completed a major expansion project that doubled the site's low-viscosity PAO production capacity to 120,000 metric tons per year. This expansion makes the Beringen facility the largest decene-based LV PAO plant in Europe by production volume.
