Short Name: 1st Reactor
Description: Carbon Monoxide and Dichlorine are mixed in stoichiometric proportions, but the CO may be employed in slight excess, to ensure complete Reaction of the Dichlorine: the unreacted CO may be recycled to the Reaction Zone. After mixing, the Gases are passed to the Primary Reactor (usually of steel or lead-lined construction) containing the Activated Charcoal Catalyst. In normal circumstances, better than 99% of the Dichlorine is converted to Phosgene at this stage of the process.
