Ruhr Oel GmbH was previously a joint venture between BP and Rosneft. In January 2016, BP and Rosneft signed a binding agreement to dissolve this joint venture. As a result of the restructuring, BP became the sole owner of Ruhr Oel GmbH's Gelsenkirchen refinery and the DHC Solvent Chemie facility in Mülheim-an-der Ruhr.

Ruhr Oel GmbH – BP Gelsenkirchen operates two integrated refining and petrochemical plants located in Horst and Scholven in Gelsenkirchen, as well as a tank farm in Bottrop. The refinery has an annual processing capacity of approximately twelve million tonnes of crude oil, producing petrol, diesel, jet fuel, heating oil, biofuels, recycled plastics processing capability, and over fifty other products primarily for the chemical industry.

The refinery capacity is mentioned to be 257,000 bpd.
Depending on the source, the capacity in tonnes is varying from 12.4 to 12.8 million tonnes per year.
More reliably, the refinery data and facts page shows 12.7 million tonnes processing capacity per year.
However, this capcity is not fully utilized
