Description

Juaymah terminal with storage tanks, flare stack and pier

The Juaymah LPG Terminal is one of the world's largest refrigerated liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) export terminals, owned and operated directly by Saudi Aramco, located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia approximately 5 km northeast of the Ras Tanura refinery complex on the Persian Gulf coast.

The terminal is built on a two-berth offshore loading pier located at the seaward end of a 10 km trestle extending into the Persian Gulf, with a water depth of approximately 11.5 m at berth. Each berth is equipped with four 16-inch loading arms capable of loading both propane and butane in refrigerated form, with a maximum combined loading rate of 23,000 barrels per hour on a single product. Vessels ranging from 25,000 to 200,000 DWT can be accommodated, with a dedicated anchorage area located approximately 2.5 miles northeast of the loading pier.

The terminal receives NGL feedstock from Saudi Aramco's Qatif Gas Plant via three parallel subsea pipelines — each 39 km in length and 46–48 inches in diameter — connecting Qatif Junction to the Juaymah pier. As one of Saudi Arabia's primary LPG export hubs, it serves long-term Aramco Contract Price (CP) customers predominantly in Asian markets, including Japan, South Korea, China, and India. A capacity expansion programme was underway to add a third berth capable of accommodating tankers up to 60,000 DWT.

The terminal experienced a major pipeline delivery system failure on 23 February 2026, forcing Saudi Aramco to declare force majeure and cancel all LPG deliveries through March 2026. This outage preceded and compounded the broader Middle East energy supply shock triggered by Iranian strikes on Gulf infrastructure from 2 March 2026 onward, contributing to a sharp spike in Asian LPG and naphtha prices.
