Description

The El Salto plant is a chlor-alkali and by-product production facility operated by Mexichem Derivados S.A. de C.V. (an Orbia company), located at Km. 22.5 Carretera Guadalajara–El Salto, in the municipality of El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico. Operations commenced in 1976 under the name Pennwalt del Pacífico (formerly Industrial Química Pennwalt), making it one of Mexico's longest-established chlor-alkali sites.

The El Salto, Jalisco site is the main integrated PVC production complex in Mexico, marketed commercially under the Vestolit brand. The plant uses the diaphragm cell process to produce chlorine and caustic soda, along with by-products including sodium hypochloritehydrochloric acid (HCl), and hydrogen. Rated production capacity is approximately 40,000 t/yr of chlorine-soda and 70,000 t/yr of sodium hypochlorite.

Products serve a broad range of downstream industries including water treatment, pulp and paper, soaps and detergents, textiles, food, and metallurgy.

The facility operates a "Purple Line" closed-loop water treatment system, ensuring 100% use of treated water in production, and holds certifications to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, as well as Kosher, NSF, and SARI Responsible Care standards.
