Gas Oil Separation Plant (GOSP)

Description

A modern Gas Oil Separation Plant (GOSP) performs the following functions:

  1. Separate the Hydrocarbon gases from Crude Oil.
  2. Remove Water from Crude Oil.
  3. Reduce the Salt content to the acceptable level [basic sediments and water]
  4. Stabilize/Sweeten the Crude Oil
  5. Stabilize the Condensate
  6. Treatment of the produced Gas, e.g. Dehydration, Sweetening, Fractionation

This section deals only with the separation of Oil from Gas and Water, as Crude Desalting, Crude Sweetening and Stabilizing, and Gas/Condensate Treatment processes are described separately.

Typical GOSP Components according to items 1. to 4. described above are:

  • Three-Phase Separator, or High Pressure Production Trap (HPPT)
  • Two-Phase Separator, or Low Pressure Production Trap (LPPT)
  • Water-Oil Separator (WOSEP)
