Description

Hydrogen Peroxide is produced by the successive Catalytic Reduction and Auto-Oxidation of an Alkylated Anthraquinone, e.g. 2-Ethyl Anthraquinone, in a Solvent Medium comprising a Chloronaphthalene or an Alkoxynaphthalene, e.g. alpha-Chloronaphthalene or Methoxy-naphthalene. The Solvent Medium may also contain Dimethyl Phthalate. The Solvent may consist of 40 per cent of a Chloronaphthalene and 60 per cent of Di-methyl Phthalate (Example I) or 50 per cent of a Methoxynaphthalene and 50 per cent of Dimethyl Phthalate (Example II). Reduction may be effected by Heating the solvent solution to 40-50°C and agitating by the passage of Hydrogen in the presence of Raney Nickel.
