Mahabad Petrochemical Company (شرکت پتروشیمی مهاباد), also known as Mahabad Petrochemical Complex, is an Iranian polyethylene producer located in West Azerbaijan Province. Established in 2008, the company is wholly owned by Bakhtar Petrochemical Company, which in turn is a subsidiary of National Iranian etrochemical Company (NIPC), the state-owned petrochemical holding entity under the Ministry of Petroleum.
The company's Tehran head office is located at No. 40, Falahzadeh Boulevard (Hamila), Punak Square, Tehran (تهران، میدان پونک، بلوار همیلا، پلاک ۴۰).
Bakhtar Petrochemical Holding was established to develop six polymer plants along the West Ethylene Pipeline corridor in western Iran, including Kavian, Lorestan, Kordestan, Mahabad, Kermanshah, and Miandoab petrochemical complexes. Mahabad Petrochemical itself holds a 6.5% cross-ownership stake in Kordestan Petrochemical Company, a sister company within the Bakhtar portfolio.
Mahabad Petrochemical Company was established to achieve several strategic national objectives: developing petrochemical production and exports utilizing Iran's abundant natural gas resources, creating value-added products from national capital assets, adopting and deploying advanced international petrochemical technologies, developing economically underdeveloped regions in West Azerbaijan Province, generating employment opportunities in western Iran, and supplying both domestic and export markets with competitively priced polyethylene products.
