Mubadala Energy (formerly Mubadala Petroleum) is a leading international upstream oil and gas company, wholly owned by Mubadala Investment Company (the sovereign wealth fund of the Government of Abu Dhabi), and one of the principal operating subsidiaries within the Mubadala Petroleum and Petrochemicals platform.

Role & Activities

Mubadala Energy manages a diversified portfolio of operated and non-operated upstream assets across 11 countries, with production exceeding 450,000–500,000 boed (working interest basis) as of May 2026 (corporate web site reporting). Its portfolio is approximately 70% gas-weighted, reflecting a deliberate 2017 strategic pivot toward natural gas as a key bridge fuel in the energy transition. Activities span:

• Upstream E&P — exploration, development, and production across the Middle East & North Africa, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam), and North America
• Operated assets — Pegaga gas field (Malaysia), Ruby gas field (Indonesia), Jasmine field (Thailand, country's second largest crude oil operator)
• Non-operated assets — 10% in Egypt's Zohr gas field, 22% in Israel's Tamar field, ~24.5% in UAE's Dolphin Gas Project
• LNG investments — 24.1% in Caturus HoldCo LLC (Commonwealth LNG, USA), entered August 2025
• New energy — active pursuit of blue hydrogen and carbon capture opportunities

Strategic Direction

The September 2022 rebrand from Mubadala Petroleum to Mubadala Energy marked a deliberate shift in strategic identity, signaling the company's intent to move beyond pure E&P and build positions along the broader gas value chain — including LNG, new energy, and decarbonization. Its 2030 strategy targets further gas-weighted portfolio growth, particularly in LNG, with the Caturus/Commonwealth LNG investment representing the first major U.S. LNG platform commitment.
