The Tuapse refinery was first commissioned in 1929, making it one of Russia's oldest operating refineries and the only Russian refinery on the Black Sea coast. Equipment was evacuated during WWII in 1942, and post-war reconstruction began in 1948, with first units recommissioned in 1949. In 2024, it celebrated its 95^th anniversary. It is primarily export-oriented, supplying products to Turkey, China, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Key Processing Units

The modernization programme expanded processing capability across three construction phases:

• Phase 1: ELOU-AVT-12 crude distillation unit (12 Mt/yr), commissioned Q4 2013

• Phase 2: Vacuum gas oil hydrocracking, diesel hydrofining, sulfur recovery, hydrogen production, naphtha hydrotreatment, catalytic reforming, isomerization

• Phase 3: Flexicoking unit (heavy residue conversion) — Not started — deferred indefinitely
