Description

Cameron LNG, LLC (CLNG) is a U.S. natural gas liquefaction and LNG export company headquartered in Houston, Texas, operating a major LNG export terminal in Hackberry, Cameron Parish, Louisiana, on the Calcasieu Ship Channel. It is a jointly owned special purpose entity established to develop, build, and operate the Cameron LNG terminal — one of the first large-scale LNG export facilities to enter commercial operations on the U.S. Gulf Coast, achieving full operations across all three liquefaction trains in August 2020.

Originally incorporated in December 2001 as an LNG regasification import terminal operator under Sempra, CLNG was progressively converted to a bi-directional and subsequently a dedicated liquefaction and export facility following the transformation of the U.S. natural gas market driven by the shale revolution. A Final Investment Decision (FID) on the liquefaction project was taken in August 2014, with construction completed over a six-year period.

CLNG operates on a tolling model: it does not own the natural gas it processes, but charges its four equity partners a liquefaction service fee in exchange for converting their feedgas into LNG. Each partner retains title to the LNG it produces and markets it independently to its own offtake counterparties worldwide. CLNG is wholly owned by Cameron LNG Holdings, LLC, which consolidates the interests of the four joint venture partners, and holds all federal regulatory authorizations — from FERC, DOE-FTA, and DOE Non-FTA — required to construct and operate the facility and export LNG to global markets.
