Description

Viva Energy Australia Pty Ltd is the principal operating company of the Viva Energy group and the direct or indirect holder of its core Australian assets. The entity traces its origins to Shell’s Australian downstream operations and was acquired by Vitol in 2014 as part of the purchase of Shell’s Australian refining, marketing, and distribution business. It became part of the listed Viva Energy group when Viva Energy Group Limited was listed on the ASX in 2018, and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary within that structure.

The company’s operations span Australia’s fuel supply chain. It holds the Geelong Refinery in Victoria — one of two operating crude oil refineries in Australia — through its refining subsidiary, with a crude processing capacity of approximately 120,000 barrels per day, producing petrol, diesel, jet fuel, bitumen, LPG, and marine fuels. It is the exclusive licensee of the Shell brand for retail fuel in Australia, and following the group’s 2023–2024 retail acquisitions (Coles Express and the OTR network), its subsidiary interests extend to a national network of more than 1,000 retail sites. The company also holds interests in commercial fuels, lubricants, aviation fuel supply, fuel import and distribution terminals, the Geelong polypropylene plant, and the proposed LNG import terminal at Corio.

The entity is registered in Victoria with its head office in Docklands, Melbourne, and is party to the group’s Deed of Cross Guarantee, under which group entities are jointly liable for group debts and benefit from consolidated reporting relief.
