Description

Propylene (also known as propene, chemical formula C₃H₆) is a colorless, flammable gaseous hydrocarbon with a faint petroleum-like odor. It is an unsaturated hydrocarbon with a double bond between two of the three carbon atoms (CH₂=CH–CH₃). Propylene is slightly soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents. 

Propylene is predominantly produced as a byproduct of larger petrochemical processes, and its main sources are steam crackingfluid catalytic cracking (FCC) and dehydrogenation of propane (PDH).

Propylene is the second most important olefin (after ethylene) and serves as a vital building block in the petrochemical industry. Its uses are:
